Colibri Beauty is Reading's trusted at-home nail salon, bringing professional, organic, and HEMA-free nail care directly to your door. We take pride in being genuinely different: every product we use is natural and non-toxic, and every service is delivered to the highest standard. Below are just a few of the ways we set ourselves apart.
At many nail salons, you may see your technician open a sealed packet of tools before your treatment — but a sealed packet does not guarantee sterilisation. Look carefully: a properly sterilised packet will show two colour-change indicators at the top, confirming the correct heat level was reached. At Colibri Beauty, our tools are thoroughly cleaned, treated with Barbicide, and steam-sterilised in a medical-grade Autoclave before every single appointment.
An Autoclave is the same sterilisation chamber used in hospitals and dental surgeries. It eliminates fungi, bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other microorganisms — ensuring every tool is completely safe before it touches your skin.
Why is this important?
Not all nail salons use an Autoclave. Without one, tools may carry traces of bacteria even when presented in sealed pouches. At Colibri Beauty, every tool goes through the full sterilisation process before each appointment, every time.
Not all nail tools can be sterilised. Buffers, files, and pumice stones must be used once and discarded — they cannot safely be reused. At Colibri Beauty, any item that cannot go through our Autoclave is single-use only, disposed of immediately after your appointment. Your health and safety are never compromised.
As a non-toxic salon, we do not offer acrylic or dip powder services. Instead, we use hard gel — an odourless, healthier alternative that delivers the same strength without harsh chemicals. Hard gel can build natural-looking extensions or strengthen natural nails for a longer-lasting finish. Unlike acrylics, it is breathable, allowing your natural nail to grow healthily underneath.
1 in 40 people in the UK has developed a nail product allergy.
The British Association of Dermatologists warns that (meth)acrylate chemicals — found in most acrylic and standard gel nail products — are causing a contact allergy epidemic across the UK. Reactions can include itching, swelling, and severe skin inflammation, and can develop even after years of use.
